Non-Compete
Agreements
A
Non-Compete Agreement, sometimes referred to as a Covenant
Not to Compete, is when one party to a contract ( the
employee ) agrees not to compete against the other party to
a contract ( the employer ) by working in a similar
profession or trade after the employee is terminated or
resigns. The reason employers frequently use a Non-Compete
Agreement is to prevent the employee from potentially
working for a competitor, releasing trade secrets, or
starting their own company, thereby gaining a competitive
edge against the employer.
